Summer Conversations 6: What are you making room for?

Jul 15, 2026

Welcome back to our Summer Conversations.

Last week, we talked about what you may no longer be available for.

The commitments you've outgrown or the expectations that no longer fit.

The responsibilities you took on along the way and never questioned.

And while I've been reflecting on that conversation, another question naturally surfaced.

What are you making room for?

Every time we release something, we create space.

The funny thing is, space can create panic or worry at first. The first few times I decided to actually take a day off or a vacation unattached to the weapon of mass distraction, I thought sure my business & life would fall apart!

We say we want more margin, more breathing room, more freedom, and then the moment it appears, we're tempted to fill it up, because just being isn't a feeling we're fully comfortable with yet.

A meeting gets canceled and we scramble to schedule something else.

A free afternoon opens up and we immediately find a way to be productive.

We finally stop carrying one thing and reach for two more. The struggle is real and I've caught myself doing this more times than I'd like to admit.

A few years ago, I started a practice of leaving a little space open.

Not because I have nothing to do, trust me, that's never the problem.

I've just realized some of the best things in my life never came from forcing them, but by creating enough room to notice and leave space for the magic.

A new possibility, a fresh idea, or a deeper connection I simply couldn't see when every corner of my life was already occupied.

So I'm curious...

If you stopped filling every open space with more doing, what might have room to come through?

What have you been wanting more of? What would make life feel richer and more alive?

More energy to connect with your people?

More laughter on the golf course or at book club?

More time outside in nature?

The space we create does not stay empty long.

The question is whether we fill it on purpose or by default.
