Worthiness Is Not a Role | Fall Conversations 4
Oct 28, 2026
By 8 o'clock that night I collapsed on the couch, and before I could even exhale, my inner critic piped up with "How can you be sitting down right now?" Sitting down, after THAT day.
You know the one... a sleepless night, then a morning in meetings and putting out client fires while stressing out about getting it all done. "Freedom" for lunch looked like speeding across town checking off errands, stuffing down a burger and picking up the damn cake for the school function. I hit every red light, bumped the car in front of me (everyone was fine, thank goodness) and I ripped my pants during the delivery! Not to mention the REST of my day from there! And still I kept going, because if I stopped, it would all come crashing down.ðĪŠ
That was about twelve years ago, and I can laugh about it now. But I keep coming back to that moment on the couch.
Why did sitting down feel like something I had to earn?
Underneath so many of the roles we carry, there's a question we rarely say out loud.
If I stop producing, proving, helping, fixing... am I still worthy?
Absolutely. Without question or hesitation. YES.
Worthiness is not a role. Your worth was never created by how useful you became, and it was never dependent on how much you accomplished.
The roles are real, and so many of them are beautiful. Mama, leader, friend, CEO, the one everyone calls. They've expressed your love, your strength and your generosity.
But they did not make you worthy. You were worthy long before you ever said yes to the cake.
I'm still unlearning this one. Sitting still has never come easy for me. But I'm getting better at hearing that voice and staying on the couch anyway.
So I'll leave you with this.
What are you still trying to earn that is already yours?
Love,
J'aime
